Lesson Description

This quit coffee ESL lesson plan helps upper-intermediate learners (B2) explore the effects of caffeine on health, mood, and daily habits. Based on a 30-day video challenge about giving up coffee, students learn wellness-related vocabulary (cold turkey, circadian rhythm, performance enhancer, etc.), practise natural expressions (out of control, nursing a headache, bouncing out of bed, etc.), and share their own routines and experiences. Through listening, gap-fills, debates, and reflection tasks, learners gain confidence discussing habits, energy, and motivation in English.

How do students learn the new language?

Learners progress through a structured sequence of activities:

  • Warm-up discussion on caffeine, routines, and daily habits.

  • Agree/disagree activity to spark debate about coffee culture.

  • Vocabulary matching & gap-fills with wellness-related terms.

  • Video activity: Quitting Coffee – Is Life Better Without It?

  • Comprehension tasks (gist, true/false, detailed questions).

  • Natural English expressions in context with gap-fills and discussion.

  • Reflection questions to connect learning with personal lifestyle choices.

Why is this lesson useful?

By the end of the session, students can:

  • Use vocabulary and expressions to describe caffeine and wellness.

  • Talk confidently about daily habits, routines, and lifestyle changes.

  • Share personal opinions and experiences in English.

  • Reflect on real-world topics while improving fluency.

Who is it for?

This quit coffee ESL lesson plan is perfect for B2 adult learners. It’s especially valuable for teachers who want to combine health, wellness, and real-world discussion with practical vocabulary learning.
