VOCABULARY & SPEAKING

Lesson Description

What is this lesson about? This Mindfulness vocabulary ESL lesson plan empowers B2–C1 learners to talk about stress management, calm, and emotional resilience with confident, real-world English. Students learn 8 advanced mindfulness terms, 6 phrasal verbs, and 6 idioms, then apply them through matching, gap-fills, and varied speaking tasks that model techniques like body scans, grounding, visualisation, and self-compassion.

What language will students learn?

  • 8 key mindfulness terms: mindfulness, body scan, stress management, coping strategies, self-compassion, grounding, visualisation, emotional resilience.

  • 6 phrasal verbs for emotional regulation: calm down, tune in to, let go of, hold on to, break down, open up.

  • 6 idioms for composure and relief: take five, a weight off your shoulders, keep your cool, let off steam, at the end of your tether, breathe easy.

How do students practise? The lesson follows a clear “learn-use-reflect” arc:

  • Discussion warm-up on stress and calm.

  • Vocabulary matching & sentence gap-fills to secure meaning and usage.

  • Phrasal verb matching + contextual practice for expressing feelings and responses.

  • Idiom definition matching, dialogue completion, and guided discussion to build natural fluency.

  • Final reflection prompts to choose a technique and plan real-life use.

Why is this lesson useful? By the end, learners can:

  • Use precise mindfulness vocabulary to describe techniques and benefits.

  • Talk about emotions with phrasal verbs (e.g., how to calm down or open up).

  • Sound natural and confident with idioms that capture stress and relief.

  • Reflect on their own wellbeing routines using authentic English.

Who is it for? Designed for upper-intermediate adult learners (B2–C1) in wellbeing-focused courses, coaching-style classes, or any programme that blends language with life skills.
