What is this lesson about?
This jobs ESL speaking lesson helps A2–B1 learners talk naturally about work, routines, and real-life experiences. Through engaging tasks and humour, learners share their own experiences, guess funny job descriptions, discuss work problems, and reflect on dream jobs.
How do students learn the new language?
Learners build confidence and fluency through a clear, conversation-first sequence:
Warm-up on work life and personal experiences.
Vocabulary practice with six key words: career, employee, skill, stressful, office, and purpose.
Real-world functional questions about daily work life.
Fun “Guess the Job” game with humorous clues.
“Would You Rather” and “Work Problems” discussion activities.
Dream job exploration featuring real unusual jobs.
Reflection on balance, stress, and purpose.
Why is this lesson useful?
By the end of the lesson, students can:
Talk about their job or ideal career using natural expressions.
Describe workplaces, routines, and common work challenges.
Share opinions on stress, motivation, and balance.
Use new vocabulary in realistic, everyday conversation.
What makes this lesson special?
Work is something everyone can relate to and this lesson takes it beyond basic job names. It encourages real communication, laughter, and reflection through interactive, flexible activities that teachers can adapt for any group or 1-to-1 class.
Who is it for?
Designed for A2–B1 adult learners, this lesson is ideal for both online and in-person ESL classes. It’s perfect for teachers who want ready-to-use, conversation-focused materials that build practical fluency around one of life’s most universal topics: work.
