What is this lesson about?

This A2–B1 clothes shopping ESL lesson plan explores shopping for clothes through real-life experiences, everyday problems, and natural decision-making. Learners talk about preferences, confidence, comfort, and common shopping situations in a relaxed, conversation-first way.

What language do students learn?

Students practise practical, high-frequency functional language for clothes shopping, including:

  • talking about fit, size, comfort, and style

  • asking about sizes, colours, and trying items on

  • politely hesitating, refusing help, or delaying decisions

  • expressing opinions and asking for honest feedback

How do students practise?

Learners practise through a clear, speaking-led lesson flow:

  • gentle warm-up based on real shopping habits

  • “this or that” activities to introduce clothing vocabulary naturally

  • reflective tasks linking clothes, comfort, and confidence

  • realistic shopping scenarios that create a need for language

  • guided use of functional expressions

  • personalised speaking and short reflection tasks

By the end of the lesson, students can:

  • talk naturally about buying clothes and personal preferences
