B1-B2
VIDEO LESSON
Lesson Description
What is this lesson about?
This social connection ESL lesson plan is designed for B1–B2 learners who want to talk confidently about relationships, wellbeing, and human interaction in English. The lesson introduces practical vocabulary (e.g. helping hand, like-minded, reach out), collocations (e.g. build relationships, stay connected, break the ice), and idioms about connection (e.g. hit it off, out of touch, get on someone’s wavelength).
How do students learn the new language?
Learners explore the vocabulary through a step-by-step sequence:
Mini-dialogue gap-fills to practise core vocabulary in context.
Listening tasks (gist + detail) based on a real video about social connection.
Quote & react challenges to encourage critical thinking.
Collocation matching with production tasks.
Idiom gap-fills followed by personalised speaking prompts.
Why is this lesson useful?
By the end of the session, students can:
Talk naturally about their own social habits and connections.
Share personal tips and reflect on how to stay in touch with people.
Use collocations and idioms to sound more fluent and confident.
Understand and discuss why connection is important for health and happiness.
What makes this lesson special?
Unlike many general discussion lessons, this one provides a rich mix of everyday vocabulary, collocations, and idioms that are directly connected to students’ real lives. It’s interactive, reflective, and designed for natural conversation. Students don’t just talk about connection — they practise using authentic English to build it.
