Lesson Description
What is this lesson about?
This setting boundaries ESL lesson plan (B1–B2) helps learners explore the art of saying “no” politely, while building confidence to protect their time, energy, and wellbeing. Students learn vocabulary and expressions for assertive yet respectful communication, then practise them through roleplays and real-life scenarios.
How do students learn the new language? Learners progress through a structured, communicative sequence:
Warm-up discussion about when it is easy or difficult to say “no.”
Short reading text (Why Boundaries Matter) with comprehension and critical thinking questions.
Vocabulary focus on useful phrases (e.g. set boundaries, assertive, burnout, protect your time, stand up for yourself).
Gap-fill and matching tasks to practise new language.
Speaking practice through roleplays, scenarios, and personal reflection.
Homework task to reinforce learning and encourage real-world application.
Why is this lesson useful? By the end of the lesson, students can:
Use vocabulary for emotional wellbeing and personal boundaries.
Express opinions about relationships, work–life balance, and self-care.
Develop fluency by practising authentic, everyday communication.
What makes this lesson special?
It goes beyond grammar and vocabulary — helping students connect language to wellbeing. Learners practise assertiveness in English while reflecting on their own lives, making the lesson both practical and empowering.
Who is it for? Perfect for adult learners at B1–B2 who want to improve fluency and confidence in everyday conversations. Ideal for teachers seeking fresh, wellbeing-focused ESL materials that combine vocabulary, reflection, and communication skills.
