A2-B1
PHRASAL VERBS
Lesson Description
What is this lesson about?
This A2-B1 phrasal verbs lesson introduces nine everyday expressions for talking about habits and routines, from waking up to winding down. Rather than a straight vocabulary list, students meet the language first through a short, relatable story, then work out the meanings themselves before practising in new contexts. The lesson closes with a structured partner interview about real daily routines.
What language will students learn?
Students learn nine everyday phrasal verbs for habits and routines, including:
Useful expressions
to wake up
to get up
to get going
to stick to (something)
to put off (something)
to cut down on (something)
to wind down
to catch up on (something)
to keep up with (something)
These are introduced through a short narrative, then practised through matching, gap-fill and a phrase-replacement task.
How do students practise?
Learners build fluency through a discover-and-produce sequence:
Reading a short story about a daily routine
Noticing and guessing the meaning of phrasal verbs in context
Matching each phrasal verb to its meaning
Completing sentences with the correct phrasal verb
Replacing underlined phrases with a phrasal verb
Reflecting on their own habits and routines
Discussing routines and habits with a partner
Responding to a realistic situation about unfinished plans
Interviewing a partner about their daily routine
Why is this lesson useful?

Understand and use nine common phrasal verbs about habits and routines
Recognise phrasal verbs in context, not just in isolation
Talk about their own daily routine using natural, everyday English
Ask and answer questions about habits in a structured interview
Use phrasal verbs confidently in unscripted speech
