A2-B1
SPEAKING
Lesson Description
What is this lesson about?
Most of us check our phones before we even get out of bed. This lesson gets A2-B1 learners talking about the phone in their pocket: when they use it, which apps they couldn’t live without, the habits they’re a little embarrassed about and the times their phone saved the day.
What language will students learn?
Students practise simple, natural English for talking about phones, habits and routines, giving reasons and telling short stories.
How do students practise?
● Answering quick-fire questions about their phone
● Talking through a normal day with their phone
● Choosing the apps they use most and the ones they could delete
● Saying which phone habits are true for them
● Choosing between two options and explaining why
● Discussing screen time, phone rules and phones in public
● Deciding what to do in everyday phone situations
● Imagining 24 hours without their phone
● Agreeing and disagreeing with opinions about phones
● Telling a story about losing, breaking or being saved by their phone
Why is this lesson useful?
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to…
● describe their daily phone habits using the present simple and time phrases
● agree and disagree with simple opinions
● tell a short story about the past using simple linking words
Who is it for?
A2-B1 adult learners in one-to-one or group classes, online or in person. Every task is a straightforward speaking task, and the lesson needs no preparation beyond printing the worksheet.
