Lesson Description

What is this lesson about?

Bills, forms, renewals, unanswered emails and the subscription you forgot you had: everyone has a pile of life admin they’re putting off. This lesson gets B1-B2 learners talking about the boring jobs of adult life, how they deal with them and who does them at home.

What language will students learn?

Students practise natural phrasal verbs and everyday expressions for talking about tasks, habits and plans. The language comes up through the speaking tasks rather than as a list to learn.

How do students practise?

●       Talking about the admin jobs on their own to-do lists

●       Deciding which admin personality they are

●       Saying which statements are true for them

●       Discussing who does the admin at home and how it has changed

●       Choosing between two options and explaining why

●       Deciding what to do in realistic admin dilemmas

●       Agreeing, disagreeing and partly agreeing with opinions

●       Planning three jobs of their own

Why is this lesson useful?

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to…

●       use natural phrasal verbs such as put off, sort out and keep on top of

●       describe their habits and explain the reasons behind them

●       talk through practical problems and possible solutions

●       give advice and make plans using a range of future forms

Who is it for?

B1-B2 adult learners in one-to-one or group classes, online or in person. The instructions work equally well one-to-one and in groups, and the lesson needs no preparation beyond printing the worksheet.
