What is this lesson about?

This gratitude and kindness idioms ESL lesson plan helps B1–B2 adult learners explore appreciation, effort, and support through six common idioms, using personal reflection and meaningful conversation.


What language will students learn?

Students work with six natural idioms:

  • count your blessings

  • thank your lucky stars

  • be in someone’s debt

  • go out of your way (for someone)

  • go the extra mile

  • a blessing in disguise


How do students practise?

Students practise through:

  • short, realistic dialogues to infer meaning from context

  • guided personal reflection tasks

  • “this or that” discussions using all idioms

  • situation-based idiom matching

  • opinion-based agree/disagree tasks

  • emotionally grounded speaking activities

  • understand and use gratitude idioms naturally
